Why I chose placenta encapsulation
My first thoughts when wondering if I should choose placenta encapsulation was that I would try anything to make the forth trimester easier for myself. It was never going to be easy but I have a passion for holistic medicine and was curious about the benefits of placenta encapsulation. Did I decide to try it to help my health?, tackle postnatal depression?, give me some kind of miracle recovery?. In the end my decision was simple. I was willing to try anything to feel like myself again. Pregnancy took its toll on my health both physically and emotionally. If I could find one solace that would give me any benefit in recovery then I was going to try it.
I remember telling the midwife that I wanted to keep my placenta right before I went into surgery. She didn’t even seem to bat an eyelid. Maybe it was more common than I thought. Sure enough as I was being stitched up and my beautiful newborn was laying on my chest she brought it over for me to see. I made my husband take a picture. I was fascinated. This enormous and temporary tree looking organ is what connected me to my baby. It sustained her life for 9 months and now its life was over. There has to be another purpose for it other than a medical waste bin. The midwife bagged it up. She put it in the cooler box and within 30 minutes someone was there to pick it up.
By the time I got home from hospital my placenta pills had been delivered. I actually opted for it to be made into gummies as I find it hard to take pills. For that first week I took 2 a day and then 1 a day after that. Did I notice if they worked? No, I didn’t. However I felt good, I didn’t end up suffering from any form of postnatal depression or ever feel too down. I of course had the blues some days due to lack of sleep and the struggles of breastfeeding. I was able to get in a routine really quickly. I had rushes of hormones but I felt an overwhelming feeling of love and content. I healed well from my caesarean and though in a lot of pain I felt brave.
Holistic medicine has always been something I believed in. Still to this day I know acupuncture cured my allergy to dogs and hay fever. While I will never really know what effect placenta encapsulation had on me and there is no proven scientific research on the subject. I think that placebo or not I consumed the sustenance that connected me to my daughter and somehow it did something to me.
It’s not a cheap thing to do, nor can I guarantee that it will work for you. The reason for everyones choice is different. Sometimes you just need to try it to believe it. Sometimes you need to try it because Kim Kardashain tried it. Sometimes you need to try it because what is the worse that can happen?
I chose Placenta Plus to help me with this process and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else. Their labs are the cleanest, safest and most hygienic. They are owned by a mum who has been through it just like us. Their customer service was brilliant and I love seeing all the positive feedback they have on instagram. Supporting businesses that helped me through my journey is important to me. Telling other people of the positive impact I’ve had because of someones business is better than any sale in my store or ad I can write. I hope this helps you with your decision. As writing this helped me understand mine and I am so happy I did it!
